    Propane fridge amonia smell
I have a dometic propane fridge in my camper and it is not working. There is also a strong amonnia smell coming from it. I was told by a person who claims to be knowledgeable that the smell is from a leaking freone line and it has to be replaced. Costs about $1200.00 to replace it. Can I fix this? Any idea what is wrong?

Unless you know about Ammonia Refrigeration you CANNOT fix it. The system is steel pipe and it has rusted allowing the Ammonia to leak. There is no Freon (Dupont trade name) in your refrigerator. They are expensive to repair. Many years ago I did much work on Ammonia refrigeration and it is no pleasure to work on.
