    Cycling to lose weight
I am 61 and want to lose about 20-25 lbs by bicycling (stationary and regular)--I try to do 30-40 minutes a day.
Is it wise to skip a day---someone told me that if you do it every day, it slows down your metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight than if you did it on alternative days.
Also, for weight loss purposes, should the bike be on low tension or high?

    Hi,
Riding at slow speeds is preferred for weight loss programs (more of the calories used will be supplied from fat tissue storage at lower levels of exercise.) Try using weights on alternate days. This is what I do when I want to be in top form.

There is a lot of discussion over taking a day off. My opinion... any metabolic gains you get by taking a day off will be offset by doing more exercises. And your heart doesn't need the day off. It recovers very quickly. At 61, good cardiac health will promote good all around health and weight loss.

    Hi,
When my goal is to get in top shape, I want the most resistance I can get. I like high tension. You might want to work up to this. You will see results faster.
