    Teeth Planing
How painful is it to have tooth planing done.

I my teeth scaled and planned 6 years ago. It took two appointments, because they only did one side of my mouth at a time--so I could EAT. It was uncomfortable, but the recovery is nothing like wisdom teeth being pulled. I think I was fairly uncomfortable the day of the procedure (motrin helped) and maybe a little for a few days afterward. I am glad they gave me a break and didn't do my entire mouth in one day, though.

I don't remember the actual planing being horrible--they numbed my gums first.

On the upside, my gums have been fine ever since!! Good Luck!

Root planing can be done with freezing depending on how deep the pockets are around the teeth. Everyone's pain threshold is different and it can also depend on the technique of the person doing the root planing.
