I have two questions. #1 When you shingle, does the underlayment go under or ontop of the gutter drip edge at the eaves? #2 I know you use a starter shingle when starting to shingle and I have seen people cut them in half and use the top half for the starter, but can you use the bottom half {tabbed part} also as a starter when using laminated shingles. Is that acceptable? Using both top and bottom halves on roof as starter? I know it looks like crap. Please help

The roofing paper or felt should be on top of the drip edge. Yes, you cut off the tabs and use the top portion for your starter strip. Or you can just turn entire shingle around such that the top portion is at the lower edge. You could cut off the tabs and use them but you would have to stagger ends such that they were covered by the first row of shingles. Certainly not worth the effort. I don't know what a laminated shingle is.

Some shingle companies make a starter strip that comes in 8'' and 12'' wide rolls.

Adding an important step. Don't forget your ice and water shield. This should run at your eaves to the edge of the sheathing. Then lap your roofing felt over that. Also use the ice and water shield in other area's such as valleys under flashing. This is code in some states/cities. But, even if it weren't I would use it.
