Dog lifting leg in house

I have a 16 month old Pomeranian and he keeps lifting his leg in the house and peeing on my furniture. I have tried the kennel traning, which works for the morning plus I have a doggy door he knows how to use, but I can't get him to stop. How can I get him to stop plus get the stain and smell out of my furniture? Is there anything that I can spray on my furniture to deter him from this? Any help is appreciated, Thanks

Is he neutered?
If not, get him fixed. That will fix it.

No necessarily, I also have a 6 year old Maltese that will also lift his leg, once in awhile and it is digusting not to mention the smell. Am getting tired of cleaning up after dogs that won't train.

Any new furniture in the house?
New smells?

Sometimes they can mark their territory if they smell anything new, even a new pair of jeans you happen to leave on the floor :rolleyes:

I just recently purchased a used rocking chair that was in good shape, but never thought about the smells on it. Is there anything I can use to spray on it that they don't like and won't spray on it? I was told they don't like the smell of lemon, will that work or what. Thanks so much for your replies.

I would actually go with citronella, dogs can't stand the smell of it, you can buy candles or oil from camping stores as it is also a bug deterrant.

Only use a tiny bit on where you don't want to dog to go as you don't want them to avoid the room altogether.

Another alternative is sheets of baking foil, just put a little against the chair (or where ever he pees the most)
Most dogs hate the sound of the urine hitting the foil and it either scares them or just makes them stop.

It could be the new rocking chair, or it could just be a behaviour change.

Give the deterrant a go first and see if that helps, if not then it might be time to re-train him to go outside.

Is the citronella oily as I would like to try and spray a little on the chair? If this doesn't work then I will try the foil. Thanks for all your answers.

Trial and error with my own dogs, plus 20 years of sitting for hours on end at dog shows!

At some point I do think you need to get a little wrapped up newspaper and say no and a little spank won't kill,I don't care how non doggie politically correct that is its not going kill them.

Dogs do respond very well to positive reinforcement ie: by giving them treats.
But if mine are doing something very bad or even dangerous and they won't stop I will show them I am serious.

It's only ever to be done if you catch them in the act though, they don't understand if you punish them after something has already happened.

When my boy pees in the house and I haven't seen him do it I get rather angry and I just point at the mess on the floor and go "Grrrrr" He just looks at me and wags his tail :rolleyes:

Not much you can do in that situation.

There is no point in doing anything when they have their head down and they have guilt written all over them,you just want to laugh and cuddle them.
An accident is an accident.
$hit happens.
They can't always GO on someone else's schedule.I know I couldn't do it:)
I miss having a dog and I have been blessed with many!

By the way 16 months is still a baby!
