My daughter has a 1996 Honda Accord and the check engine light comes on. Took to the mechanic and he got it to go off twice and now it is back on. What could be causing this problem.

The computer is reading a fault somewhere. The mechanic should be able to read the trouble code to find out which. If not, ask another.
