I am making log furniture and using both black and decker and porta cable 5" disc sanders. The sanding discs will not stay on the pads and keep on falling off. I tried using blue line sialink disc rolls which stick to the discs as well as hook and loop sanding disc but nothing stays on for long. I have changed the pads on both sanders with the same results.
Any suggestions what I can use to do the job without this problem?

Try sanding stars, flutter sheets, or mop.

Hook and Loop disks are not going to hold up. You also have to replace the hook side once and a while. High pressure kills them. Use them only for finishing operations.

I ordered some hook and loop sheets from them for various grits and the loops on the back of the sandpaper varied in strength depending on the grit used.

They also have the hook material which I should have ordered.

Another type of adhesive that you can use essentially comes as a solid tube. You use it on the backing plate and then attach the disk. This is the method used in industrial disc sanders. None of this convienience stuff. Hook and loop and pressure sensitive, is just that convienience.

Is there any abrasive I could use on the disc sanders? That is the tool that I need for this type of work.

You really need the PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) and backing plates.

Fine, high speed sanding would probably best be done with an ir powered sander.
