I have a Moen bathtub & shower fixture. The screws on the plate were coming out so I screwed them back in, but now the faucet has been pushed out about a 1/4 inch from the wall. Also the water handle is loose so I tried to tighten it with the allen wrench and it won't budge! Can you help?

First, the plate you are speaking of... is this just the "plate" behind the fuacet handles?

Faucet handles either "twist" on like a circle or by a lever (looks like a handle type) When you say it's loose, do you mean it isn't making a tight connection to turn on the water?

Hey Christine,
Does your valve look anythingn like this, (see image)? I don't think you got the screws bottomed out. Tighten them up. What type of a handle do you have? Can you take a picture and show us? Regards, Tom

Sounds like your tub spout pipe behind the wall wasn't properly secured, so when you tighten the faceplate screws it pulls the whole valve body and piping to tub spout out. You may be able to cure this by loosening the allen screw on the bottom of spout and pushing the spout in toward the wall, then retighten allen screw, then silicone any gap between spout and wall. As far as the allen screw on the handle goes, don't try to tighten it, just unscrew it and take the handle off, then there will be a screw that holds a black piece under the handle on,, tighten this screw and replace handle with allen screw. You can also remove the plate, insert couple of wedges between the tub wall and the body of the faucet and reinstall the plate. This way, the body will stay put while you will be able to tighten the trim plate against the tub wall.

Milo nailed it! We place a small piece of wood between the valve and the tile wall and tighten the face plate against that to secure the tub/shower valve. Good luck, Tom
