About 10 years ago I didn't pay rent in Nova Scotia for 1 or 2 months and just got my income tax return back with $1000 of my return going to this company. Is there not a statue of limitations as to how long they can go after a debt?

Hello E:
There IS a statute of limitations, and some Canadian will come along and tell us what it is... But, the key is that you got sued. IF the statute of limitations had been reached, THAT was the place to make that argument. You didn't, and they got a judgment. With their judgment, they collected.
I cannot imagine you getting the money back even if the statute expired... Did you not get notice of the suit?? Even if you didn't, it's going to be a LOT of trouble getting the judgment set aside..

I didn't get any notice but have also been out of the country for the last 5 years :(
