My landlord is trying to evict me
Hi I have been renting an apartment for 1300.00 for the past two years and have suddenly fallen and hard times and I am behind one month and a half on rent my landlord called me on 8/26/09 and told me that if I don't pay her/him (a couple) 800.00 by sep 9, 2009 I am going to have to find a place to live. Now the tricky part is that I never was given a lease to sign and I was never even given receipts when I paid my rent , I always paid in cash. What should I do ?

You should either pay or start looking for someplace new to live. With or without a lease the landlord can start the eviction process. I don't remember the usual time frames for notices and when they can actually have a sheriff come and remove you from the property but I'm sure someone can come along and fill in the details. Where are you anyway? Eviction laws vary from state to state.
