    Won't shut off
My HP laptop running XP will not shut down. Any advice?

Hold in the power button for about 10 seconds. Then try to start it back up normally so that Windows can sort out the bad files that were created during the shut down.

Well, she doesn't have to know YOU did it. LOL, she's still at school. Now I got to go about getting a new avast registration key.

I use Avast on my desktop and Avira AntiVir on my laptop. Both are very good, I use both because it's what I recommend to my clients in my little homespun business.

Which do you like better? If either? Is Avira free?

From current reviews of the free editions Avira detects more.

I just DL'd Avira, and so far am liking it. It has detected some that my Avast missed.
