What tools are out there to assist me in finding my birth parents. My adoptive parents have both passed on and now I would like to find my birth parents. My main reasoning is for medical records as I now have a 1 grandchild and another on the way. I want to be able to answer questions if they arise. I also want to be ready if something were to happen to me. It is way past time to be prepared. I was born in San Rafeal, California on June 10, 1962. Can someone please help me out with this? I would appreciate any and all help.

1. Contact the adoption agency used. That paperwork should have been with your adoptive parents legal papers. Leave a letter with the adoption agency in case your biological parents are looking for you.

2. Do the same thing at the courthouse in the county you were born in.

3. Register on online reunion websites such as adoption.com, adoption.org, and ISRR.

Unfortunately, the odds of you finding your biological parents is low. Many of the older generation of closed adoptions do not WANT to be found. An out-of-wedlock child at the time was a deep shame, and hidden from everyone. She may have never told ANYONE about you, and having you reappear in her life now could cause all sorts of problems for her.

Also, most courts will not open the records of closed adoptions for anything less than a medical emergency. Those women were PROMISED secrecy, and for the most part, judges are honoring the heart of that agreement.

However--even if she doesn't want contact, she may have left medical information for you either with the adoption agency or the courts in the county where you were born.
