Is it possible for a 7 year old dog and a 6 month old pup to end up getting along.. This is the first time in years I've had a pup around... We've had the pup since yesterday and so far rebel has done the "i'll stand here but ignore you" he will lay on the couch with the pup as long as someone else is on the couch.. groweled at him a few times outdoors.. groweled at him once indoors...

They walked good together when we went to the gas station today.. the pup pulls like a S.O.B and tries to chase cars but I keep a tight hold on him. Where he's from there wasn't much traffic.. he was kept in a hallway because the female dog didn't like him.. he's a big bulldog.. weighs 50 pounds already which is the same as our dog rebel...

Twice outside the pup dropped into a submissive position but he's still a pup and he tends to try and lick rebels face, muzzle and ears.. rebel doesn't like it... is it normal... I don't want to force them together if they don't want to be..

Right now they are both sleeping beside me...

Is it your pup or are you dogsitting?

Sometimes older dogs can have trouble dealing with a boisterous pup.

Try giving Rebel some treats that he only gets when the pup is around.
You need to try and make him think that having the puppy there is a good thing, not just time for the pup to annoy him.

Hopefully the treats will outweigh the puppies naughtiness.

Shaz... it is Our Pup.. Trial run right now... we told the owners that if they didn't get along or if rebel got too depressed and stopped eating we couldn't keep the pup... yea 7 years age difference give or take half a year is a bit of a difference... the pup listens well and will leave him alone if you tell him too.. but he is a pup all he wants to do is play and rebel.. even though he's not super old isn't really a playing dog. Though he did try and play with the pup once this morning.. rebel is allowed on the bed.. the pup isn't.. plus he can't make it that high to begin with right now.. so rebel sleeps on the bed and the pup sleeps on the floor by the bed and seems content with it.. rebel has been getting special treats just for him when the pup around.. and if the pup tries to annoy him all you have to say is "dont bother rebel" and he usually stops right away..

Yes, it's a bit different having a naughty pup around the house!

It can take quite a while for an older dog to get used to a puppy but he should be OK eventually.
If all he is trying to do is get away from the pup sometimes then that is normal.

Just make sure he can always get up on the bed or the couch away from him so he can have his "own space"

Yea rebel is just trying to get away from him at times.. though its nice they can be on the same couch together

His name is Titan.. he is a 6 month old alapha blue blooded bulldog.. with papers..
1 blue eye with 1/3 of it brown.. and 1 brown eye.. blue merle in color.. see pics

What a sweetie, I love the blue eye.
I have always wanted a Husky for that reason!

They should be fine.
Don't stress yourself out, just let them get used to each other, as long as Rebel has his own space he shouldn't get too upset.

You can't see it well but the top 1/3 of the blue eye is brown.. so he's technically got a marble eye... he's just so hyper.. and is running around 50 lbs already... I've seen the pup drop and be submissive for him... I know shazzy I worry too much don't I

You do worry too much, but so do I so it's all good!

I posted a big panicked topic on here because my dog had a lump on him... turned out to just be a hot spot :rolleyes:

Submissive is better than trying to stand up to him.

Has he been neutered or are you planning on doing so?

Lol good to know I'm not the only one who panics... he is neutered... and I agree submissive is better than aggressive. He dropped submissivly twice or three times now to rebel

He just respects him as the older dog.

As Rebel gets used to him (and vice versa) that should stop.

Mind you, I have my tiny little girl here and my much larger male and the male will bow down to my little girl every time!

I am glad he respects him as the older dog.. I hope it does I'd love for them to evenually play together...

So far.. rebel is still being a bit moody... he's always been like that even with no other dogs around.. though he is eating somewhat which is a good sign to me... when we first got him he wouldn't eat for days... but even with the new dog here he's eating... not huge ammounts in one sitting but he's always been a snack all day kind of dog.. eats when he's hungry..

Bathed the new pup.. wow wasn't he dirty... didn't mind the pool though so its nice I can actually bathe him without getting into a pair of shorts and jumping in the shower like I do with rebel

Our Australian Shepherd/Beagle mix has the same feature in her left eye. Its quiet pretty!

She's 4 and we got a 8w old puppy in December. It took nearly 5 months before Millie would adapt, but they are the best of friends now :D

I agree learning.. it is really beautiful... I bet your dog is some cute though...

Thank you for letting me know how long it took your dogs to adapt. Each dog is different but its an example...


Just a little while ago rebel was laying with me, titan came up sniffing his feet and for once rebel didn't even look at him, or even move an inch... that to me is a good step because he usually would sometimes jump up immediately and walk off..

I didn't even think about this...

My mum just bought a new puppy.

She has one dog that is 6 and another that is 4.
The 4 year old you would swear was about 17... she is the grumpiest laziest dog ever.

She introduced the pup to her and she got out of her grumpy ways immediately and started playing with the pup, we were all stunned!
Mind you, it does help that that same dog is also the mother of my girl :rolleyes:

Aww what kind of pup did she get? That's awesome that the 4 yr old changed her ways... rebels getting better. Though now it's the boyfriend worrying... what if he chews on things when he's at work... that's what he's worrying about.. so far the pup has not chewed on anything except for some toys...

Puppies chew, he has to expect that.
As long as he has his toys he will be fine.

If he is that worried about it buy some bitter spray to put on the chair legs etc just to ease his mind haha

She got a Mini Poodle, and he is an absolute terror!! I know puppy teeth are sharp but darn... we could open our own piercing business with that little guy!

That's what I said shazzy... all pups chew... we've been teaching him to just chew his toys.. when he tries to grab things. (which he just tried to grab a pillow) I say NO! And replace it with a toy. Then when he starts chewing on it I praise him.. hope I'm doing it right...
Thing is we don't have chairs.. only couches.. so can it be sprayed on fabric?

Aww what color poodle? The black ones are my fav color but I'm always worried the white ones would get dirty LOL... hmm good plan.. Piercing here... LOL

You can get bitter sprays that are safe for fabric, and even leather, just make sure you test it on the back of the couch in a small spot first.

She got a black one ;) Was going to be getting a brown but the one she has now turned out to be a better dog (conformation wise)

Having a white dog is... interesting! Haha Yeah he sure looks cute but after it has been raining and he has decided to go play in the mud it is not fun!!

Your right.. titan is merle but he's got some real white feet, legs and head and body so I'm worried he's going to get dirty LOL
