    Problems with lawnmower.
I have a ride-on lawnmower with a 18hp briggs & straton motor in it. Well Last time I tried to use it, I found out that there was fuel pouring into the air filter so into the garage it went. I took off the carb and put it in a carb dip for about 40 hours. Now that it's clean, I'm going to drain the oil/gas mixture that's in the oil tank and put some fresh oil in there, change the spark plugs, possibly fuel filter if I can pick one up at the store. My question is, is there anything else I need to do to get this motor running efficiently again. Also, I'm going to take the nut off the carb where the jet is and clean that out with carb cleaner.

Any help or input would be awsome. Thanks!

    Hi,
Sounds as if you are doing most everything necessary. Fuel filter would be a must since that is probably dirty.
Question I would have is why you did not have the jets removed in the dip. I always disassemble. Any rubber or similar material does not survive in its original condition.
    Peace,

Well I just gave my buddy the carb since he works at a bike/atv shop but I used carb cleaner on it and cleaned them out that way. The tractor purs like a kitten now with 2 new spark plugs, new fuel filter and fuel lines, new oil, and a clean carb. Now for the next problem. The battery is toast and gutta buy a new one for it lol

    Hi,
Recommend doing a bit of price shopping, but do not skimp on CCA. The cheap ones, and often the ones at mass merchndisers, have less than 200. A number of 265 CCA or up is better. Do check the battery leads with nothing connected for continuity first. Always connect positive first (and disconnect last.)
    Peace,
