Will I get drug tested on my probation?
Hey everyone just a quick few questions.
I'm 17 years of age and I live in Houston,Texas and I got charged with a drug paraphernalia but I dident get caught with any weed on me. I had to go to court on August 26 of this year.I went to court and the first lady was asking me if I would like to plead guilty, none guilty, our 90 day probation to get it off my record. I took the 90 day probation to get it off my record. She never told me when it starts, our if I get drug tested. The only thing she said was when she gave me the paper of when to come to court again it said October 24 our 23 but that’s because I have to bring 300$ and a picture id with me. They never said anything about a probation office, I dident have to get a lawyer our anything like that. So please feal free and leave comment our if you need any more information just ask. Thank you. My main question is am I going to get drug tested?

You'll probably have to do some substance abuse counseling, pay a hefty fine and processing fees, check in with your probabtion officer monthly, and yes , you MAY have to undergo drug screenings. So, for at least a year, do not smoke any weed, or whatever it was you got caught with. If you do get caught during this year, you will most likely lose your license, pay more fines ,and possibly have to spend some time in jail. So, what are you going to do? Smoke or not smoke? It's a good time to quit for life. You just got a good wake-up call. I was young once, and did some of those things that you're doing now. So I understand. You may need to hang out with a different crowd. The last thing you want to do is get a record. It will follow you around for life.

    Hello vc:

    Of course you will.

It makes no sense for you to be put on NON supervised probation, so I'm sure you're going to have to report to somebody. When you go to court again, they'll tell you who to contact. If they don't, I'd ask. Cause if you're supposed to show up somewhere, and you don't, it's YOUR a$$ that'll go to jail - not that lady.

I know these things I mentioned happened to a friend of mine who was caught with a joint at a party in Georgia. I don't know about Texas, maybe you will be lucky and not have to do anything but pay a fine, but I doubt it. I think that you'll need to see a probation officer. You may want to find out, or re-read your paperwork.

    Hello again, vc:

They SHOULD. But, just because they should, doesn't mean they will. Like I said before, the responsibility for showing up at the PO's office rests with you. So, if they DON'T tell you everything you need to know, ASK them.

The idea here is to be proactive. You need to look out for YOURSELF and not count on the good graces of others - especially THESE others.

Look, you need to understand that a $300 fine could easily turn into $1200. The guy I mentioned had a $200 fine that turned into $800 plus due to court costs, probation fees, lab tets, etc. Don't go thinking that $300 is going to do it. They should have a payment plan though.

You stated you took the 90 day probation so the charge would not be on your record. What part of "I took probation" don't you understand? Of course you will be tested for drugs! Your 90 day probation period will be starting the next time you go to court in October so why don't you start now to stop smoking pot? Anytime someone gets probation for any kind of drug related charge you're guaranteed to be drug tested at least once a month, maybe more in your case since it's only going to be a 90 day probation period. Be sure to read over any paperwork you get in court and be sure to read over any paperwork at the probation office and ASK questions if you do not understand anything on the paperwork. Just because they hand you a piece of paperwork with all sorts of rules on it does not mean you immediately understand what you're agreeing to. Be perfectly clear what the penalties will be if you do not complete your 90 day probation successfully. You could very well be doing 90 days in jail if you do not successfully complete your 90 day probation period. Pay all of your fines, pay all of your probation supervision fees and pay all of your drug testing fees.
