I am using Windows millennium on Compaq Presario 4000 PC. VX2001 virus scan that I am using alerted me that the following files have been affected by W32.Yaha.L.Iworm :

    1. TCPSVS32.EXE
    2. NAV32_~1.EXE
    3. Winser~1.EXE
    4. GC_Mes~1.EXE

As this virus scan could not remove the virus, I removed the relative files. Now I find that I am not able to run any program like Word, Excel, Outlook Express etc. Directly in my system. However, I am able to invoke the Word program by clicking on a word file. This is also the case in respect of the other programs.

I guess that if I could get the above files copied into my system, I should be able to run the programs like before. Am I right ? If so, how do I get the above files ? Can you help me ?

If you want to fix your computer as soon as possible, I would suggest reformatting it. Because, if you get those files, yes.. you might be able to run your programs again, but what are you going to do about that virus if it already spread throughout your computer? Are you going to find others files that the virus infected? Reformatting would be the easiest and safest thing to do.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks for your response. I have lot of data files that are important for me for which I do not have recent backups. Can I back them up now and do the reformatting ? I guess the viruses do not affect data files and data files do not becomes carriers of viruses. Am I correct ? Please guide.
