Here is one by good ole Shakespeare:
''I'll make my heaven in a lady's lap''
(Henry VI part 3 - Act 3, Scene 2)
I think we know what he meant ;)
Sarah
Well can anyone tell me the meaning of these ones:
" love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged cupid painted blind"
And
" love thyself last:cherish those hearts that hate thee;corruption wins not more than honesty"
Is this homework?
No, just stuff I'm interested in knowing I love shakespeare and am looking into getting a tattoo of a quote of his, and I like the way those sound, but id love the meaning of them and I've looked everywhere but can't seem to stumble across them
Well I was just wondering the literary meaning behind it... not like someone's personal meaning, I guess
Thanks..
Hmm maybe someone can be helpful here
Sorry, but I agree with Alt.
The 'true' meaning behind anything Shakespear put in his plays has been lost in time.
Just for an example:
hidden meaning behind missing balcony shakespear - Google Search
The balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet. Click the links and see how many different interpretations there are.
My suggestion is just to pick your favorite quote that you think is about love, and go with that...
Though, my suggestion would be against tattoos anyway, lol.
