Colon Cleanse - Anyone done it?
Has anyone here done a colon cleanse before? I am wondering whether it really helps in terms of eliminating toxins, and if so what is the best method for doing a cleanse? Buying a product or making my own fiber shakes? I need some advice here... been doing some research online and found these sites: Colon Cleanse Zone and Is Colon Cleansing Quackery?

They really do help a lot.
But make sure you don't take them for any length of time. Just long enough to notice the difference. Like a week or two.

    Good ones contain
    •slippery elm
    •Marshmellow Root
    •Dandelion Root
    •Blessed thistle
    •Red Clover
    •Rhubarb

Also what is better for long term is digestive enzymes.

Oh and the foot detox pads are a waste. I think they are a gimmick they only draw probably about 5% of the toxins out of you

I think colon cleanse is good for you. My sister did a cleanse and she said that she felt really good. She also told me about a show she watched on TV about it and a doctor said that having a "dirty" colon might actually be why colon cancer is so common. A lot of things people say about it might be quakery but it is probably is good to do it just to clean out all of your old crap that has been in your body for years and years.

I have been into holistic health ever since I saw Kevin Trudeau's infomercial in 2003. I have since done quite a few different colon cleanses. Some of them are very harsh and permanently damage the nerves that control the peristalsis movements - thus over long-term, slow down your bowel movements, and making you reliant on colon cleanses/laxatives.

They strip out the beneficial bacteria from your intestines as well. Colonic Hydration does the same thing and are an unnatural mechanism that your body in nature, would never be exposed to.

The problem to go after and seek to correct, is why the body keeping the crap stuck in you in the first place?

Upon further study and research on the importance of correcting mineral deficiencies, I learned why this is really what people need instead of colon cleanses.

I have recently has my first colonic irrigation performed by a qualified therapist. I did a series of 3 and felt great - less bloated, more energy, clearer skin.

The therapist recommended no more than a series of 3 per year.

If you do it yourself - orally - then ask a naturopath to recommend the right herbs in the right quantities.

Funny story. A couple of years ago there was a really amusing oriental guy who did infomercials on TV for his detox system. Had a really strong Japanese accent. Behind him as he spoke about his product and how good it worked for entire elimination was a long plastic tube full of what he called 'poop' and he would keep on referring to it as 'poop'. I got a kick out of if anyway...

Yes, I believe in a good detox once in a while but I can't recommend any right now. If I needed one I would research at my local health food store where they have very good advice and reference material handy.

Consider the role of the colon. Whatever we eat and drink gets processed and the nutrition from our foods is used to keep our bodies healthy. What is left over is waste. If you clear out waste as it accumulates, no problem. However, if you eat a lot of foods that are hard to digest or you have a lot of stress that inhibits digestion and elimination, you can end up with chronic constipation. Dehydration is another reason we end up with constipation that becomes a way of life. If you are not eliminating waste for each meal you eat, what is happening to that waste? It is building up in your colon. Common sense will tell you this is not healthy over time. Colon cleansing is one way to clear out old, impacted waste. It is not quackery at all though some of the marketing surrounding some colon cleanses make it sound that way. A colon cleanse does not create miracles; it's just one good step you can take to help a sluggish eliminatory system.
