Ask Me Help Desk - Is nursing a worthy career to choose ?

I am a student from india. I gave entrance exams and got selected for Bsc nursing in a good reputed college here itself. But now I am worried of things I will have to deal with.I know it's a caring job but I can't do all these messy work all my life. CAn I am scared of cleaning up the dirts of people.do msc or mba or phd in nurisng furthur and get rid of this? Will I have to do all these things as I study in the college? And after my studies are over? How many years will it take to complete msc, mba,phd in nursing? How much payscale will I get as bsc nursing or with a higher degree in india and in abroad? Could I get management job in nursing in foreign also with high salary? Or will I have to work as normal nurse there even if I hold a higher degree?? I earlier wanted to do MBBS but I heard that people don't get jobs with just a mBBS degree in hand, plus doing Msc or MBA after MBBS is costly.is that so?? My parents can't afford a lot of money to be spend in that . I belon to a middle class family . And getting just a MBBS degree after coaching one year and giving entrance exams again and getting selected from lakhs of students is a difficult task. Do doctors have to work with untidy people and clean up dirt sometimes?? I am very confused right now and don't understand what to do. Its my future decision and I have to make it quick. Please please help in this please reply me sooner. I am like a daughter to you who needs her fathers guideance .so please help.its very urgent. Well I am not going to tell you what you should do cause that is ultimately your decision, but it seems to me like you want a career based on money and that is your motivation. Nursing pays well but you really need to have the desire within to be a nurse and nursing school is not easy it takes dedication and a drive to complete the schooling and become the best nurse you can be. I don't see you talking about helping others and wanting to care for others, those are important feelings to have when making a decision to become a nuse. Have you thought of that?

I am a nurse and I still don't like cleaning up feces or dealing with incontenent clients, after my schooling I focused on public health and dealt with new moms and babies in the community. So I took a desk job, it paid well. I now live in Africa and I opened up a clinic here to help new moms and babies and I'm also working on some public health initiative. Nursing can be so rewarding I have finally found where I belong and I love it. You need to find where you belong and nursing may or maynot be for you and that is your decision to make.
But let me finish by saying there is no greater feeling in the world than helping another fellow human being in my pinion and nursing gives you the chance to do so everyday.

But the thing is that, what will I have to deal with when I get in there as a professional nurse? And about money earning , everybody has that dreAm but I want my job satisfaction as well so kindly be little more broad in what you respond. This all depends on what field you go into. I am in Labor and Delivery. I also work in the Newborn Nursery, as well as postpartum. So, in essence, I assist in delivering babies, I take care of the babies once they are born and I take care of the mothers after they have the babies.

I have heard that the reason people like that "baby smell",it is actually a pheromone to make you want to care for them and it releases all the good hormones.
You get to smell babies everyday ,how blessed is that :cool:

My labor coach/ teacher "Lamaze" was my delivery nurse.We all were real happy about that !

Update... next door neighbor found out she was pregnant last Monday... 38 weeks to be exact. Yes, it was truthfully one of those "I never knew I was pregnant." I see her daily, so I never saw the pregnancy changes (she has an inverted uterus and still got her periods). Well, as I clocked out from work yesterday morning after a 14 hour shift, I saw their car pull into the parking lot at work. What did I do? Turned right back around... did not clock in, but was there with her as a coach (no pay included) until her baby boy was born, only to go home, get a few hours of sleep and go back to work last night for another 12 hour shift.

So no supermannnnnn, this is not going overboard, and this is not exaggerating. This is my life and I love it!
