    7.3 diesel starting problems
I have a 92 Ford 7.3 diesel non-turbo I just bought. I have started it several times since I bought it and today I got it licensed and drove it 10 miles without any problems. I tried starting it 15 minutes after shutting it down and it failed to start. It cranks over fine. The fuel tank registers just under a 1/4 tank, I took off one of the small rubber hoses on the fuel filter housing and fuel shoots out of it when I turn over the engine.
I noticed the motor oil is on the "add" mark on the dip stick - (didn't know if there was a safety shutoff switch. Are there any other shutoff switches I can check? I looked at all the fuses (they are fine). I've never had a diesel and I don't know where to begin. Any electrical connectors I can check, and if so, how do I? -volt/ohm meter, sound, etc? Can diesel fuel be placed in the intake like a gas engine to see if it will fire? The problem should be simple... It ran fine one moment and didn't the next. Very frustrated.

The oil level is likely the problem. Read the link below and you'll understand why. It's imperative to change the oil and filter on diesels on schedule. Once you get it started, begin using a full-synthetic diesel HDEO.

No, you can't pour fuel in, as on a gas engine, to get it started.
