    Washing machine discharge
    Hi,
I would like to move my washing machine into the garage (slab) and discharge the water up 8 feet to the ceiling and then over 30 feet to the waste stack in the kitchen. Can I do this without having a basin/slop sink in the laundry room (no room)?
    Thanks

    Hi Iralevine:

A washing machine pump is not intended to pump water 8 feet high or 30 feet away... it will eventually break the pump or may not even work at all... ;)

I think you would be better off to install a 2" drain pipe and 1.5" vent out to the new location. Is this possible?

    Let me know...

Each design/manufacture is sligtly different. Most say 5 feet is max, some will go up to 8 feet before crapping out. The one thing is the water in that hose will likely drain back into the machine once the washer shuts off, some have a small back check valve ,(see image)to help prevent that, some do not. Some washers ( Maytag is one ) have high volume pumps that can be purchased so they will do the 8 feet easily.

Another consideration is the washers speed, regular ( high speed ) moves the water out easier than the delicate ( slow speed ) does.
Is this what you wanted to know? Regards, Tom
