    Leak behind water pump
I have a JD with a 22 hp kawasaki engine which is liquid cooled. It is leaking behind the water pump. The gaskets for the water pump have been changed. How difficult is it to replace the gasket on the plate behind the water pump? Do you have an illustration on how to remove and replace the part?

    Hi,
Just to clarify; what model? Technically, I could get by with the engine numbers - begins with "FD." And is it oil or water?
    Peace,

    Hi
I'm sorry I forgot to say that it is a 445 JD and it is a water leak

    Hi,
You changed the gaskets? Why? The leak?
My guess is the pump itself (or rather the seal in the pump.) I attach a drawing of the pump body and put an arrow pointing toward the weep hole that is in the bottom of the body. I would say that it is coming form that hole.

PS Do not ever hook your battery up backwards; It will cost you a wiring harness and ignition control module when you turn the key on. Had to repair one.

    Hi
The illustration you included is in front of the leak. The leak is behind the next plate you illustrated

    Hi,
That is the body of the water pump in the illustration. I will put up a more complete picture. Only gasket #26 would cause a leak behind the pump body.
    Peace,

    Hi
I showed my husband your illustration and he was wondering if you could send an illustration of the plate which goes around gear #24? The leak is coming from behind it. I really appreciate you trying to help us.
    Thank You

    Hi,
I had to reduce the size to post, but here is the whole picture. Gear #24 is the water pump gear and #27 is the pump housing. Everything inside the box #36 (yes, I know it is a weird shaped box) is water pump. If it leaks behind it, then gasket #26 is at fault.
    Peace,
    Clarke

    Hi
Sorry I have been so long in answering, but we had a family emergency. I just wanted to thank you for your help and to tell you that it was actually the gasket behind the water pump, I think he called it the crankcase gasket or some name like that. But the water pump fastened to the part he had to remove to change the gasket. But again I just wanted to let you know that it is nice to still see people trying to help someone else out. May God bless you and yours for all that you do.
    Thank You
    Barb & Clarence
