Water Usage costs due to below ground leak
A water leakage between apparent in April 2009 when water appeared on the ground surface. On checking it was noticed that the connection between the mains supply and the reticulation system was faulty and leaking. The water to reticulation was immediately turned off and fault reported to landlord and repair carried out.
However, it cannot be ascertained as to how long water was leaking below ground before becoming apparent on the surface.
When receiving a water usage account from the landlord for the period January 2009 tp July 2009 the water usage for the period was 405kl compared to same period last year of 215kl. My water usage over 9 years have varied little and I feel that the landlord should bear all or some of the additional costs for relating to water leakage which is not as a result of anything of my doing.
Can you advise as to who is legally responsible for the additional costs< or what the legal position is?
Thank you
