Married Filing Jointly, different states confusion
    Hello,

Me and My spouse work in different states. My husband works in Louisiana and I work in Florida. When we filed our 2008 taxes, we filed as Married filing jointly. When we filed our Louisiana taxes, it took into account my income also. But I never earned any money in Louisiana. So, we changed my husband residency from "Full year resident" to "Part year resident". After making this change, it took the correct income.
Is this correct? What should we do in order to avoid this when we file Louisiana taxes?
We didn't have problem with Florida taxes since there is no state tax in Florida.

Please help on how we should go about this in the coming year.
    Appreciate your reply.

Technically it is not correct, but sometimes filing as a part-year resident is the only way to get tax software to properly compute the tax, which would be to tax ONLY the LA-sourced income.
