    Can a hairdresser do this?
First look at this picture to see what hair style I'm wanting:

My hair is a few inches above my waist but when I pile and pin it all up on my head, it still doesn't get as high as I want.

How in the world could I get my hair to pile as high as they did in the victorian erra. I know they wore wigs, which I don't want to do. I know in the 50's or 70's they wore little plastic bumps to get the bump in the back of the hair. Is there some kind of similar thing to pile my hair on top of to get this version of Marie antoinette hair style?

Would an average hair salon even know how to do this style? I never go to the salon so I have no clue what they can do. I just don't want something picked out of a catalog and I want more than a fancy curly bun with flowers.

I am sure they would be able to do it.
Take the pic in and if they can do it and you have them do it watch how they do ut. Maybe you will be able to do what they did when you want it done again,

When people wore their hair up in that way, they would set it with a rack. It can be done, especially these days. Shop carefully for a hairdresser. Ask tons of questions of several. Expect to pay a little more for one who can do it well.

    A good hairdresser will know.

Like the pp suggested, take a pic to a salon and schedule a trial run so you can check the results. It's a good way to try the style and find a hairdresser you're comfortable with. :)
