American Standard - dripping from shower head
    Hi,

I have a problem with water dripping from my shower head. I have American Standard hardware with a single lever knob (shower only, no tub). I installed a new cartridge 023529-0070A but that has not fixed the problem. My house is only 4 years old.

I'm not a skilled DIY type but this replacement was so easy that I don't see how I could have screwed it up. On the cartridge, I blew on the "shower out" port and no air was leaking out of the hot or cold input ports. This seems to me like it rules out the cartridge being the issue. I have seen no signs that water leaks from the cartridge assembly. All I have is the constant drip from the shower head that is driving me crazy.

    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hey Keith,
When you had the cartridge out did you turn the water back on for a moment to flush out the supplies and valve body? There may be a bit of trash caught under the cartridge. Since you've only supplied the cartridge number and not the model number of the valve that's about all I can comment on. Good luck. Tom

Thanks for the reply. I didn't try turning on the water with the cartridge out. Will the water shoot straight out or will I have water headed for the floor inside the wall?

I'm not sure about the valve. I only know the cartridge number because that's what I was sold at the local plumbing supply store when I brought in my old one. I did a search on the internet and came up with this:

I think this is my unit although I don't have the tub spout. Does this help you?

    Thanks,
    Keith

I got brave and flushed out the parts for about 30 seconds. It's still dripping though.

You have to have some dirt in the cartridge that's preventing it from closing all the way. Pull it and check again. Let me know, Tom

I replaced the pressure balancing unit and that fixed the problem. Life is good!
