Hi I've just moved to a new home in Florida and have a well.
My problem is Iron build up in shower and toilet, {also inside of my new washing machine}
I've tried everything and have scrubed my toilet for up to a half hour trying to remove the stain. Now my shower tiles are all yellow and so is the grout, my husband put a new filter on the main water into the house hoping that will help not sure yet till I get the old yellow stains off first.
I've tried a lot of different cleaning supplies but so far nothing is cutting it.
If any one out there can help me please do I've never had to deal with a well before!
Other wise the water is good. No smell no taste.

Having lived in Florida I think your problem could be the tannin level in the water. This is what causes a lot of the staining problem. You need to call a water conditioning company and ask them exactly what kind of a filter to get to eliminiate this from your water.

I had a whole house charcoal filter and I did not have any problems with any kind of iron, tannin, or smell. I had a system that could be backflushed once a month and the large tank needed to have the charcoal replaced about every 3 years. When I bought my system it was about $1,000 back in 1991. You could get one similar or if you know a plumber friend who could hook you with such a system. They are not that hard to build yourself but you need the right components and charcoal and gravel for the tank. I watched my friend install my whole house filter and learned how easy it was to do. This way I was actually watering my lawn and taking baths with filtered water. The before and after glasses of water were striking to put it mildly.

Have you tried CLR? I know I used bleach in a toilet in North Carolina and it got the stains out. Try some bleach and water in a spray bottle and leave it for a couple of hours and then scrub and rinse. Comet or Ajax works well also. After it's all clean try sealing the tiles with GEL GLOSS found by the toilets and sinks at Home Depot. Get the can and not the spray. Put it on like waxing a car and buff it out when it's dry. This should help protect your tiles.

Thanks for the info. I've tried the bleach and it didn't work and I use comet to scrub the toilet and shower, it helps but I would like it all gone and the shower grout to be all white again like it was when we moved in a month ago..

We did talk to a person about the water softerner for the well and he wanted almost 2500.00 to put it in. Not sure if he said anything about charcoal my husband talked with him. I will give the info to my husband..

I've used CLR before back North but kind of wanted to stay away from it but if need be I'll give it a shot.. also I will try the Gel Closs that is also a new one on me...
