    Recessed lighting for playroom
I have a 11X14 bedroom which I am converting into a playroom. I want to install 6 inch recessed cans. I would like to know how I should layout this room using either six or eight cans. Any help and/or suggestions is appreciated.

Assuming you use either a 65 watt R30, Par30 or a Par38 flood lamp, or a comparable compact fluorescent lamp at 2700 deg K, and you like the walls illuminated along with the floor, come away 2.5 feet from each wall, space 3 feet along the 14 feet length, using 8 fixtures.

If you want the walls more shadowy (if that's a word), use 6 fixtures in a similar pattern. This can produce a shadow scallop effect on the walls.

Using a good quality dimmer will finish it off, consider using two dimmers and control the lights in two groups.

If you have something special like a fireplace at either end, consider using eyeball or some other aimable recess trim and switch these separate.
