I am having a hard time finding any detailed information on the Ashley 1602R wood/coal burning furnace sold at Tractor Supply stores.

The specs ans the price is clear but there are no FAQ's or additional details. Such as:

With this system is there a smoke smell within the house?
How often do you need to stoke the fire?
I currently use propane - is it an easy add on and can I set up the propane to kick in as a backup?
How easy is it to install by myself, or do I need a licences installer?
Where would I find a licenced installer?
What else is needed besides the furnace - all the other parts, vents, duck work, etc.

Any info would be great.

Can the people that`s selling the stove help any at all? Maybe stear you to someone local that can help,, a lot of answers would need someone to look at what you have to answer questions
You need to look at venting and know what the city/county code is where you live

wmproop asked a good question. Can't the seller give you the info you require? If not, then in my opinion, they shouldn't be selling it. This happens way to often. A store sells a product that they have absolutely no knowledge of. So guess what, they isn't going to back it up when it doesn't work. I would suggest going to a plumbing,heating, and cooling company and see if they install such stoves. It may not be the same brand as the one your looking at, but if they install one that does the same thing, I would go with them. This way you will have a warranty(on install and material). Where propane is involved, I would never suggest doing the work yourself. Best bet is somehow find people that have had a system such as this installed, and see what they have to say. All wood/coal burners can create a smoke smell in your home if not properly installed.

How often do you need to stoke the fire?

That depends upon the type and dryness of the wood/coal and also the outdoor temperature. The colder it is the more stoking necessary to heat the home.

I am sure a professional can wire the system to do that with a relay etc.

If you are asking that question then you better have a professional do the install since a lot of knowledge is necessary to install one properly. Then there are the local building codes to worry about. License might be needed so call your local building department.

All installs will need different parts and pieces to complete the install. There is NO WAY to calculate this from our perspective since we are not there to see what you need.
