How much rest needed for torn tendon?
:confused:Hi everyone, looking for some help. I'm a 65 y.o. guy who has just retired, I've had Osteo Arthritis for 20 odd years & in Jan '09 I was diagnosed with a partial tear in my right shoulder tendon. I was told to 'rest it' & no phisio therapy of any kind. Well I did 'rest it' sort-of, but around the end of Feb when the pain seemed to have settled, I gradually started doing light stuff around the place & then about 3 weeks ago it suddenly began hurting again BIG TIME. Since then I have had hardly any sleep as my left shoulder joint is now inflamed (Bursitis I think), and during the day I keep my R elbow in a sling, I'm taking 20mg Oxycontin for the pain. Hope I'm doing it right this time, but don't want to be on Oxys for too long... any hints?

Slings can be dangerous. They can cause "frozen shoulder." You need to see your doctor about this for proper treatment.

Thanks for the reply, I was taking Gluc/Chondroit. For 4 years but felt no better for it so gave it up. Been taking Omega3 fish oil liquid for past 10 months & before that Celebrex & then Vioxx for many years but had to stop that due to stomach problems.. cheers.

I do like the hylaronic acid way better. It takes about three weeks to a month to notice a difference

Thanks for the info. Re the use of the sling. The whole idea of the sling seemed a bit 'dodgy' to me too. I didn't know (& I still don't) know what the best course of actionis. My doctor told me to rest it & a phisiotherapist is the one who made the sling & advised me to rest the arm as much as poss. Also... I don't want to end up with muscle wastage in my arm & biceps from lack of exercise plus it's mighty painful when I try to use the joint even with the meds.

What form does the hylaronic acid come in? Ie: powder, caps, liquid or tabs. For whatever reason we don''t have WalMart down here but I guess I should try a health food store maybe, also is it wildly expensive?

    Tablet
    It can be expensive

The Rexall brand at Wal Mart was cheap though.

    I really haven't checked other brands/
