Do what the doctor told you to do -- lose weight.

Oh, and it might not be you. Does your partner wear jockeys or other tight underwear? Ask him to switch to boxers so the air can circulate. Does he take hot baths or showers, and/or relax in hot tubs? Tell him to stop it. Men's reproductive equipment doesn't do well with heat.

I'm going to assume that you're young because you can't even spell pregnant.

Maybe wait a few years, that may be the problem.

If you haven't had a period in a year, you are probably not ovulating. That would prevent you from getting pregnant. No egg, no baby. Have you asked your doctor why you are not having regular cycles? You need to have your hormone levels checked. I don't think being overweight would cause this. I suspect he just couldn't think of anything else to say. Find another doctor.

You apparently haven't tried very hard. Cut out all the junk food, sodas, sugary stuff, snacks, cookies and cake, chips, fast food. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, some protein (cheese, meat, eggs), and drink lots and lots of water. Walk at least four miles a day (build up to that) or buy a treadmill and use it at least twice a day for a half hour each time.

My formerly fat coworker told me she lived for three weeks on green salads over which she deposited albacore tuna and sprinkled over that about a fourth cup cider vinegar. That is all she ate for breakfast, lunch, and supper, plus she drank a lot of water and took a good multiple vitamin every morning. She also walked up stairs instead of using the escalator or elevator, and parked at the very back of mall lots and the lot at work. She said the weight dropped off almost visibly.

Ask him to stop with the hot showers for at least a month after you have lost 25 lbs.

Did he check your refrigerator and your cabinets and your pantry? Did you keep a food diary and show him what you honestly eat each day?

Do that for me. Keep a food diary for three days, and then post the information here.

I assume you had normal periods in the past?

How overweight are you? That is, what is your Body Mass Index?

If you have metabolic syndrome (prediabetic) or if you have polycystic ovary syndrom, that can cause an increase in androgens, which can interfere with fertility. If you have either of these conditions, it should be obvious in your blood tests for blood sugar. Have you been tested for either of these? Do you have any of these symptoms?

If you eat like that every day, you should weigh about ten pounds.

Well, you're going to have to stop "working on it" and start doing it -- like, be serious. My first thought was, what else did you eat and drink today that you "forgot" to mention.

April, It sounds like you are doing the best you can. I really think you should check with another doctor and get a second opinion.

In the meantime, I would suggest persisting with your dieting. It can be discouraging, but if you are consistent, I think you will start to see results. My understanding is that large amounts of grains and dairy tend to increase insulin resistance, so you might want to reduce the amount of grains in your diet and replace them with fruits and vegetables, as well as some nuts or eggs. Of course, count calories. Do not drink any soft drinks and avoid fruit juices, which increase your risk of diabetes. If you do eat grains (bread, pasta, rice, corn), make sure they are whole grains. If you do drink fruit juice, make sure it has the pulp in it, as fiber is your friend. Everything you eat should be high in fiber.

    Good luck!
