Below I've got a link to two pictures of both electrical boxes if this helps.

I have two bedrooms next to each other. They are on the same breaker. Today I installed a very basic ceiling fan into Room A. the wires in the electrical box coming from the ceiling are two tan, one black. I connected black to black, white to a tan, and the ceiling fan's LIGHT wire to the other tan. The ceiling fan worked but the lights did not.
In ROOM B, the simple overhead light stopped working also, after the fan was installed. I've disconnected the entire fan and ROOM B still won't come on anymore.

Any ideas?

The light to the ceiling fan needs to be connected to the black wire. What you did in the other room I don't know. A connection isn't being made correctly

Where do you live? Tell me about your wall switch(es) controlling this fan, are there 2 switches? You are assuming one tan is neutral and the other tan is hot for the light. The light needs hot and neutral, what did you do with the lights white wire?

I discovered that both tan wires from Room A had to be wound together for the light in Room B to come back on. So now, all I've got for the ceiling fan is the two tans wrapped together and the one black wire.
Coming from the ceiling fan, I've got a black(motor) wire, a red(light) wire, and a white (Neutral) I've been trying some combos but now the ceiling fan won't come on, yet the Room B light is back on. There is just one switch in the room. Hope this makes sense.

There is nothing wrong with room B. It's just on the same circuit as room A and you disconnected it's neutral wire while working on this.

In room A, Connect the two loose whites to the fan white and connect the black and blue from the fan to the loose black.

The tan wires are not tan. They are white. OK, ivory or beige, and they are old and dirty, but are called white.

The bundle of two black wires and one white is the hot coming to the ceiling box and going on to the other bedroom. The white wire in that bundle is the hot going to the switch.

The two whites are the neutrals coming to the box and going to the other bedroom.

The single black is the hot coming back from the switch.

Remove the tape; connect those three wires and the black from the fan together using a wire nut.

Connect the two ceiling box white wires and the fan white wire together with a wire nut.

Connect the light hot (you said it is red) to the single black, which is the hot coming back from the switch.

The switch will control the light. The pull chain will control the fan.

Hey john, go back to my post 3 and try to answer my questions. Without knowing more you could end up with lights and fan on at the same time if you follow all of the directions give this evening.

How was the light wired originally?

I agree that the tan wires are all white. Is there only one black wire?

I'm betting, fan black and blue/black stripe to white, all whites (tans) together.
