The flex shaft on the trimmer broke and I would like to know how to replace it. Does the flex shaft come with a piece that fits over the clutch? I looked at schematics but could not tell if this is the case.

The flexible drive shaft (description that appears in the parts breakdown) is simply that. It can be lubed and inserted from either end, though the clutch end is often easier. Part #791-182839
A wise move yearly is to remove it, re-lube it and put it back in turned in the opposite direction. This minimizes torsional forces acting upon it by reversing them.
