Hi there,

I've been wanting to buy some books by R M Ballantyne and have come across copies sold online that are published by Bloomsbury, Wordsworth, Claremont Classics, Alexander Classics, and Dean and Son. Problem is, the sellers can't seem to find information inside the book to indicate if the copy is abridged or not. Apparently, not all editions contain this information! I accidentally discovered that Penguin Book's edition of The Coral Island was abridged through an angry customer on Amazon. :(

The publishers' websites don't appear to have any information about these books. Is there any website that lists categorically which editions are abridged or not? How can I find out before I bid or buy?

Penguin's books are usually abridged so I would stay away from them. I do know that there are several listings at BN.com. Most of the time you can click on the book and it will bring up the product Information. Also sometimes the book listing has ABR next to it which tells if the book is abridged or not. Hopefully this helps a little bit.
Also you could try calling your local Barnes and Noble, as they would probably be able to give you the info your looking for.
