    Bee Sting allergic reaction questions
I got stung about a half hour ago. Every time I get stung, I get really nautious and tired.
I never know what to do.. .
A half hour ago I took benadryl and iced my foot (I stepped on the bee.)
THE STINGER IS STILL IN IF THAT MATTERS.
I a really hungry and thirsty because I, uh, all my food and beverages came up almost immediately after I got stung. They are in the septic system somewhere.
Can I eat something that won't come up? Drink something? I'm really light headed but won't eat or drink something if I'm just going to reject it.

    Thanks!

Also, what should I do about the sting?

My fever was 102 but now normal. My foot is hardly swollen. I'm still really nautious and tired.

Sounds like you need to go to the ER

You need to get a bee sting kit for people who are allergic to bee stings and carry it with you.

You need to get the stinger out.
DO NOT squeeze it! You will squeeze the toxin in.
You have to scrape it out with your fingernail or a knife ,you scrape it out!
The way you would take a razor and shave.Slide it out.

Also you can put a baking soda paste on it after you take the stinger out but if you are allegric I think you should also go to the ER.

Go to the ER. Tell them what you've told us here.

artlady agrees: At this point she would be a goner

Yeah I started thinking the allergic reaction was an over reaction.

But if the swelling doesn't go down I would be concerned

I wanted to go the er, kind of hard to do w/ 2 little guys in diapers. Would have gone no matter what if fever didn't go down. I called our on-call dr and was waiting for a reply from him when I posted. Good now. Hadn't known, till I read above, about the no pinching the stinger. I didn't know how to get it out or if I had to, but I got it.

I got stung by about 5 yellow jackets today. Disturbed a nest.

Getting the stinger out is the #1 priority. Use the edge of a credit card or a razor blade. Fortunately, no stingers. They just chased me.

Next step is either Ammonia, (baking soda and/or meat tenderizer and water)

    Later an anti-itch cream.

In your case, I might ask the doctor for a prescription for an Epi-pen. It' a shot of epinepherine (spelling?). Benedryl was a good move.

When I was a kid it was MUD. It drew the toxin out.
It was the 50's so they may have improved things.

Feeling better today! Thank you everyone for your answers and help! As I said, every time I get stung, I never know what to do. Usually I just pass out for a couple hours and wake up to somebody shoving benadryl down my throat! Lol
I'm glad I know about the stingers now. This one is STILL in my foot. I CANNOT get it out!

Thanks for letting us know. We appreciate follow ups.

You need to get it out. Could you get a grip of it with tweezers?
  • Aug 16, 2009, 02:23 PM

If you can't get a pair of tweezers, go to a medical aid unit or your doctor to get the stinger out. At this point, it's probably too late for scraping.
