I have a kenmore icemaker that leaks water . I'm sure the water supply valve needs replacing . My question is this. The original valve ( WR57X0110 ) is no longer in production
The replacement valve (WR57X10033) is not a direct replacement . It needs some minor modifications . Can someone help me as to what exactly , I must do ?

What type of modification is needed?

I did read something about taking the nut off one of the lines ( not sure if it was the supply side or to the icemaker side) and I guess inserting it into some sort of a quick connect ?on the new part . I got this simple explanation on the internet when looking to oder the valve .I'm close to 76 years old , and when I tackel the job I want to make sure I do it correctly . I'm not sure if they give you complete instuctions on the modifications when you but the part ? Thank you for your reply .

My sincere apologizes. I forgot to come back to check for a response from you. Ice maker valves are fairly generic. The modification you mention sound more like adapting to various types of water line tubing. Any appliance parts business can probably provide the valve you need. Tribles' Appliance Parts are very good if you have one in your area.

The instruction sheet will tell you what you need to do to adapt to you line. You said that the ice maker is leaking. If by that you mean that the valve does not shut the water off completely, remove the valve, take it apart (there should be 4 small screws) and clean . Just rinse the inside of the valve well. There is probably some small trash that is keeping the valve from seating properly.

I checked on line for a direct replacement , and on the same site it warned against taking the valve that is used on my unit apart , as this type of valve will surely leak and possibly cause a flood . I'm sure you are correct in your assessment on what must be done to install the replacement , and that the instuctions will come with the part . As far as the part store you mentioned I don't think we have one here but there must be a similar store in the area.I would like to thank you again for your help .
