    Do I have Pcos?
IN Feb. of 2008 I was told that I have 3 cysts on my ovaries. I had my blood work taken and they said that I was negative for PCOS. Now 2 days ago I went to get an ultra sound on my own. I have had very bad pain in my right side. They found that on my right ovary I have 2 cysts one is 10cm ( huge) and the other 4cm. On my Left ovary I have one 3 cm and 3 very tiny ones. I went to see a Doc yesterday. She DID NOT test my blood, but she told me that I have PCOS. DO you think that I have it, even if over a year ago I tested negative for it?

Unfortunately my insurance is ppo.. so I pay out of pocket.. so I am not able to just go and get 2nd and 3rd opinions with out paying a lot.

If anyone knows, I would apreciate it! I have written a few questions on here, but no one seems to ever respond to me. PLease help! Thak you :)

There is more to PCOS than just cysts as some women are prone to developing them but do not have PCOS. Here's a great site with a good deal of information on it.

Personally, I wouldn't automatically accept a diagnosis of PCOS just from having cycts. Do you have any of the other more common traits?. some facial hair, weight gain, irregular cycles, blood sugar fluctuations, fertility issues, etc. Certainly not everyone will have all of these, but just pointing out there is sometimes more going on. Was anything else discussed during your visit with the last doctor?

First off, Thank you for answering me!

No my doctor said it was PCOS right off the bat. She did not say that it was anything else.
I do have some other symptoms, but it may not be PCOS.. I don't know? They are: acne ( which my face has always been perfect until now) cystic pimples mostly on my chin. Also my hair is falling out a lot, more then normal. I have had some problems with my weight. Not a huge weight gain.. I was 126 and I went up to 140. Normally it is easy for me to loose weight, but this time it took a lot of effort.. finally I am back down to 132 ( which I think is good for my height). Its just that it takes me a lot to loose now. MY period is irregular. IN feb. 08 I missed it for 8 months. NOw It can either come normally or I can miss a month or two. If I take herbs, it comes.. if not, it doesn't. This is why she thinks its PCOS and told me to use YAZ to control it. Oh yea you asked a about trying to conceive. I have not tried so I am not sure if I am able but I did become pregnant when I was 20, but unfortunately I lost my baby. I had no cysts back then. They only started Feb. of 2008. I do hope that this problem can be fixed because I do want to have kids. MY Fiancée and I want to try when I finish school in 2011!

Blood tests aren't always conclusive for determining PCOS. It depends on what your hormone levels were at the time, and hormone levels are constantly changing. It sounds like you may have PCOS. As DoulaLC said, check out SoulCysters.com: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Treatment & Resources. It is one of the best sites I've ever seen for PCOS and it will give you a lot more information.

So it was not PCOS... I had endiometriosis... had surgery to get it removed. I feel 100% better now!
