I live in california and have a credit card that was closed 5 years ago and has a balance of 1500 dollars. No payments or contact have been made for 5 years now they are sending a collection company after me can they still collect it?

First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's. This can lead to confusion. You should start a new thread. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

The owner of a debt can collect on that debt until its paid or you die. If the SOL is expired it only limits the tools they can use to collect that debt.

For example, they could find a jurisdiction, assuming sufficient contacts with you, that has a longer SOL.
