Will the laminate floor peak if a heavy, large piece of furniture is near? How do I correct this?

Do you mean deflect by the word peak? Yes it can, especially if you used a foam pad under the laminate. Spreading the weight with a wooden caster or plate may help but I have no real cure other then that.
