Hi, we are replacing our ancient honeywell round thermostat with a new digital "Globe" brand one.. I noticed on our old one, there is a jumper wire with the red wires... On the new one's insatll directions, it doesn't say anything about using a jumper wire... We will be one wire short then... Any ideas on what we should do? Thanks !

Please tell us how many wires come from the furnace or air handler to the thermostat.

Also give us the Letter marking where the wires are on the old thermostat and the letter marking on the new thermostat.

That will give us an idea of haw to help you.

It is hard to read the instructions printed on the screen, so I an going to take a guess. You will need to use the jumper between the two terminals RH and RC.. But I am not familiar with the "Globe", brand or exactly what all it shows on the LED if that is what the display is on. I guess is that you need the common wire to make things work if you do not have a battery powered unit.

Or if it is battery powered the common wire may be to make something light up on the thermostat face like change filter or something other.

The problem is that your wiring on the old sub-base for the old thermostat is completely out of color code. The color code is used to denote the correct wires for different purposes. Example R=RED,Y=YELLOW,G=GREEN etc. Your system is not wired as such so it is almost impossible for us to be accurate in telling you how to wire your new thermostat. Wiring your new thermostat wrong can lead to system or thermostat damage so you can see while we are hesitant to try. We do not want to damage your equipment.

In this case the safest way to approach this problem is to run a new thermostat wire that contains the proper colors of wires then they can be attached correctly to the unit and thermostat OR sound out each wire,see exactly where they go, then reidentify both ends of the wire to the color code they should be. Sorry but that is what it will take to be safe.
