How to install a mowing deck belt
I have a Dynamark tractor, also known as a Dinosaur tractor, with a 36 inch mowing deck.
The belt broke because a spindle cracked and had to be replaced. Now I have no idea how to reinstall the belt. The latest attempt made the clutch work backwards but the blades would not cut. Does anyone have any idea how to install the mowing belt? Thanks for your help. I guess maybe I just have to shoot the darn tractor:)

    Hi,
I am afraid there are few drawings or pictures available. Even a parts breakdown is of little help except to get the part number; they were fairly lousy drawings.
That said, the belt goes on the bottom sheave of the engine and goes directly to the blade spindle on the left. On the right it goes to the idler that tensions it to engage (should be a flat or "backside" idler - meaning it touches the belt on the side opposite of the "V") and then goes to the right spindle.
    Peace,
    Clarke

Clarke: Your directions are good except for one thing: which is right and which is left? If you are standing at the rear of the tractor, which is which? Thanks for your patience, Carol

This is a deere site but may be of some help to you. There are so many decks and they do not all work the same way. john deere belt diagram - Google Images Is there a belt between the engine and the deck and then another belt just running around the deck, most common.

    Hi,
Left and right with respect to all mower references are from the ioerator's position to use the machine; i.e. on the seat for a rider and at the handle for a walkbehind.
    Peace,

Clarke: The system won't let me rate your answers but I want to tell you how much I appreciate your help! Thank you very much. My tractor is all better now!
