Me and my boyfriend have been together for nearly 6yrs.we have a 4yr old son together.my question is this.we want to get married,but don't know if it would put us in a bind by dng so.my boyfriend owes backtaxes to the IRS,and a numerous amount of unpaid medical bills.if we were to get married would I be partly responsible for his unpaid debts?or when its time ti file taxes will the IRS take my tax money from where he owes them?please help.

You can file a form with your tax return (if you file a joint return) that will allow you to keep(or recover) your part of the return.

If you are THAT concerned about the money aspect, why not wait until he stabilizes his financial situation before getting married?

No need to add extra stress from financial burdens that come from marriage.

I really believe that before couples take the next step into marriage, they really need to have a stable relationship in almost all aspects.
