Puppy pooping in crate at night
I have a 3 month old Yorkie, Chihuahua mix that we have had for about a month now. The first few weeks went the same as house breaking any new puppy, with him having accidents in the house, but over time started happening less often. But then we went out of town for a week and left him at a Kennel that my cousin works at. When we returned home and got him and his crate back, I noticed dried poop at the bottom of his crate... something he had never done before. Ever since then he has been pooping in his crate every night! It is very frustrating to give him and his crate a bath every day! I have also heard that the size of the crate can be a problem when this is happening but I did research and his crate is about the right size. He is also walked very regularly, all through out the day and then at 11 pm and 7 or 8 am. I don't understand why this has started happening when it wasn't a problem before.

Oh and I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it... but he has also started whining a lot more when I put him in his crate. He used to just cry a little for a minute or two, but now he barks and howls for several minutes.

Thanks for your time! Please help me if you can!

It sounds like he had a pretty stressful time at the kennel.
Possibly suffered from separation anxiety at being left with strangers.
I'm not saying kennels are bad, I am going to have to board mine some time soon when we go away but you need to understand how stressful it can be for them.

The most you can do is just reassure him that he is not going to be taken away again.
Go through the toilet training process again and start separation anxiety training.
Separation anxiety training teaches the dog that when you leave you are going to come back.
Let me know if you need any more details about how to do it.

Thanks so much! I looked into Separation anxiety and it sounds like what he has. So the next time I leave I'll be sure to try some of the tips I found online.

Excellent, at least when you pin point the problem you have a better chance of being able to fix it.
Let me know how it goes, I cross my fingers for you :)

You really shouldn't be bathing that poor thing everyday. Do something else, your taking all his/her natural oils away!
