    1979 Suzuki GS550E
I know this is a motorcycle, but I couldn't find a motorcycle category. I have a 1979 Suzuki GS550E. I am having problems with my starter. I had the starter rebuilt and a new silinoid put on, when I puch the start button it just clicks. When I get a battey boost pack on it whips right over, I have a new battery on it as well. Could it maybe be the charging system isn't working? Like the stator or rectifier or regulator, any ideas would be helpful thank you!

My old Honda 350 was very sensitive to any oxidation on the battery terminals or connectors, when I lived in California. It would prevent the engine from starting. You could not even see the corrosion. Clean thoroughly with 250 grit abrasive cloth and apply silicone dielectric grease.

Place your battery on a motorcycle battery charger and fully charge it. If you do both of these things, I bet it will work fine.

Hi,it could be a bad ground connection on the solenoid side, try this, make sure the bike is in neutral, put a screwdriver between the 2 solenoid terminals, just for a split second, the engine should start right away.this would mean that you may have to clean the contacts on you starter button.

I have the same problem with mine!! I own an 82 gs550L. New battery and stator, won't turn over. Just clicking and then the battery dies. I jump the battery with my car, STARTS RIGHT UP! Sorry for your problem but I know the feeling.
