Hello,

The wood in my kitchen cabinet under the sink was warped due to a leak. I removed the wood and can now see the floor boards. I would like to soundproof this area, because there is a lot of transfer of noise from my neighbours.
I have heard of people placing a layer of pink fiberglass over the floor boards and then covering it with the new plywood floor.
I have refrained from doing this because fiberglass is not waterproof/resistant and do not want to create other problems.

Please tell me if placing fiberglass over the floor boards is a good/bad idea and if it's not feasible, is there another product that I can use that is soundproof and water resistant?

This isn't my area of knowledge, however after having just cleaned out an old basement full of nasty, slimy, moldy fiberglass batt insulation, I suggest you first do whatever it takes to fix the ongoing moisture problem and then do not put any fiberglass insulation anywhere near a high humidity area. Once the area is dry, something like SUPERSEAL subfloor plus foam- sound deadening material for floors might be appropriate. If you don't get any further responses here, please check with a local contractor. If the water issue isn't addressed properly, significant structural or other damage could occur.

I would suggest several layers of pink/blue rigid foam insulation which can be removed at a later time if necessary. As stated the moisture issue must be addessed before anything is done to insulate.

The transfer of sound from this one area will not have too much effect. Sound will penetrate through rest of floor.

That box will not show when you only have a few posts to your name. I think you need 10 posts before you can rate folks.

You could replace the shelf under the sink with 1/4" cement board. Prime it with a water-based primer and then paint with 2 coats of a mildew resistant bathroom paint.
