Lm renovating a rental. The rental is fed from a house 60ft away. The house that's feeding the rental is on a well supplying 7.5 gpm. The main house has a bladder tank with the proper electrical apparatus etc. Lots of water! Now. The cold water line entering the rental runs in this order 1st the laundry, 2nd the bathroom, third the kitchen where this small bladder tank sits above the H/W tank on a shelf. The only cold water traveling past this point is the kitchen taps 8ft away. The hot water line travels back the same path the water main does in, stopping at the laundry room.. With all said: Do l need that bladder tank? Is it doing anything? Is it just giving me more pressure 8ft to the sink in the same room? Thank you.

Sounds more like an expansion tank for the water heater than a bladder tank for a well.

Harold: the tank is connected to the cold water pipe, not the hot.

The widget maker nailed it again. You have a expansion tank,(see image) not a bladder tank. This's necessary if your water system has a backflow preventer,(see image) or check valve installed. Regards, Tom

Hi Speedball 1, nice diagram however, that's not it either. L found the brochure hiding behind the tank. It is a Duro-Air cold water pressure tank with a replaceable bladder, model XA 60. It's 15.9 US gallons, 16" diam, 31" height. OK. What would the benefit be having it inslalled in the said location above? Is it helping? Thank you Tom.

It adds a little capacity to your water system and probably mitigates water pressure variations when both residences are using water.

It's a bladder tank doing service as a expansion tank (see image). The upside of having a bladder tank in place of a expansion is as Harold explained , "It adds a little capacity to your water system and probably mitigates water pressure variations when both residences are using water."
Anther benefit is that a expansion tank fills up in time with condensate and must be recharged by draining the system. You recharge a bladder tank by simply adding are to the snifter valve. Good luck, Tom
