    Toilet Noise!!
Help. Before I call the plumber, can anyone tell me why, after flushing the toilet, it has begun to take longer, when it is refilling, to stop making the noise that it does?
I don't know how to explain it... it is not a huge noise, but just that it has begun to now take a long time to stop, not as it did, when in the past one flushed the toilet... HELP?

    Hi Violet,
What type of ballcock do you have. Float ball on a rod or a can on a wire? Describe the noise. Did this happen all of a sudden or come on gradually?
Back to you Violet. Cheers, Tom

Thank you for your reply... I think it is a float ball on a rod or chain. Unfortunately, at the moment, I am unable to lift the top off to see as I have injured my hand, but I can find out for sure maybe tomorrow... If it is a float ball on a chain or rod... then any advice? And it seemed to have happened suddenly - it has been like this for about two months. Also, it gradually gets quieter and quieter until it stops... another clue. Difficult to describe this! THANKS!

(it is not a can on a wire... is this real or a joke?? )

    Hey Violet,

"(it is not a can on a wire....is this real or a joke??!)"
No joke! FluidMaster markets a ballcock that has a can on a wire instead of a float ball on a rod.
You have answered my question. The noise you hear is most likely caused by a loose washer vibrating as the ballcock fills the tank. You can go at this two ways. (1) You can flush and when the noise starts you can turn the shut-off, located under the tank, clockwise until the noise stops**OR**
    (2) Shut the water off at the shut-off and pull the lid. Unscrew the three screws from the top of the ballcock and pull the float ball and stem assembly up and out. Pry the washer and turn it over. Make sure it seats well when you press it back in. before you reassemble place a pan over the ballcock and turn the water back on for a moment to flush out the supply. Reassemble and give it a test flush. Good luck, Tom
