Change fan from remote to pull chain
I have a harbor breeze remote fan and want to put the thing on a pull chain. Apparently the remote activator resides in the switch box on the wall. (I bought a display model and was missing the remote etc,) The light is no problem as it is straight wired. The fan though has the little black box with two wires in it and I think that that is a capacitor or something. There are no little switches to change the code. So... that is why I believe that the remote receiver lives in the switch box on the wall. I have a black (fan) white (neutral) and a blue (Light) wire on top. At the bottom there are four wires going back up into the fan. I know I have to physiaclly install the three speed pull chain but which wires go to where?

Receiver resides in the canopy of most fans. Where did you find this "The fan though has the little black box with two wires in it and I think that that is a capacitor or something" Fans without pull chanins usually are not easily adapted to a chain, no hole. This may be a display but have you checked with Hampton about warranty.

You can't just install a 3 speed pullchain. There is nothing to determine the speeds.

You can buy a remote/receiver kit and use that, or use a 3 speed wall control.

Contacting HB is a good idea.

I hope you paid a deeply discounted price for it.
