    Defamation of character at workplace
At my job, I was discussing with our safety supervisor about the drug and alcohol policy. I had mentioned that I was a recreational marijuana smoker. I have not previously violated our company policy. Have not tested positive on any drug test, even the one the company gave me 4 days after my statement. The problem is, before I could take the last drug test, I had to sign a continuation of employment contract for 5 years, and agree to having to attend rehab, or be suspended without pay. An email about this went to several people in the company, including my direct supervisor. I am innocent in being a substance abuser, which is what the company currently has me labeled as, ruining my reputation, and possibly any chance for advancement with the company in the future. I am grieving this issue through the union, and have completed my mandatory rehab program, which because I don't have a substance abuse problem, was given the minimum required by the group. The company is dragging their feet on having the grievance meeting, greater than a month. Do I have a case for after I win the grievance? Thanks

Sounds like since you haven't been smoking marijuana and they have nothing but your comment you may have to get them to see it as a statement like recovering alcoholics at AA meetings where they say they are alcoholics but haven't had any in years.

Let me see you confessed to the "safety manager" that you used pot sometimes.

Most places that would get your fired.
Being given a choice between fired and being in a company required program, sounds like a personal chocie

If you don't want to be treated like you use drugs, don't tell people at work you use them

Most work places have a ZERO acceptance,

    Hello s:

I don't think so... All they did was react to what YOU told them.

I agree... Why would you tell someone at work that you smoke pot unless you wanted some sort of action taken? You put yourself in this position. And yes, most places would have fired you.
