Rental Property condition upon occupancy
My daughter is renting a home near a UK with 3 other young ladies. The home is a two family unit, with the other unit also being rented by college students. The lease began August 1st. The prior tenants vacated July 31st. Upon moving in, the home was supposedly cleaned but the cleaning crew had inadequate supplies. They basically wiped the window sills down and vacuumed a path. The home is is major disrepair. Several windows are broken and taped over, Windows are nailed shut, holes in the floor and the dryer does not work. The living areas such as bathrooms, kitchen and living room have not been painted in recent years and the carpets are stained and thread bare. Window blinds are damaged rendering them unusable. This is a ground floor unit so privacy in this bedroom is important. In addition, an extension cord is being used to provide power to a lamp post in the parking area. The extension cord is plugged into my daughters kitchen plug and tucked along the wall.
I would like to know if the landlord is required to paint, replace broken windows and blinds. As a parent we were required to sign the lease to guarantee rent payment.
